Droichead na gCuimhní (Bridge of Memories)
Beneath the timeless stone arches of this old Irish bridge, the river flows in a soft blur—like memories carried gently through time. Each current whispers echoes of footsteps past, of murmured conversations and silent crossings. The moss-lined masonry stands as a sentinel to generations, weathering the rhythm of water and history alike.
This photo wasn’t the image I had originally set out to capture. I had planned a wide scenic composition from a nearby boardwalk—but when I arrived, the entire area was closed due to dangerously high water levels. Disappointed but undeterred, I pivoted and began scouting on the fly. I tried several angles. Nothing felt right. Then I remembered a simple rule that’s saved me more than once: fill the frame.
I switched to a tighter perspective, focused on the motion of the water beneath the arches, and something clicked. I shot this image at f/11, ISO 50, 1/3 sec—a blend that let me keep the stone crisp while giving the water a soft, dreamlike texture.
Sometimes, the best photographs aren’t the ones you planned. They’re the ones that appear when you pause, adapt, and trust your instincts.
