Southern Utah is one of my favorite places to be, and if it weren't for the very fierce summer heat I would be content to live there. However, summers there are like living in an oven. Not like a Death Valley oven, but pretty hot nonetheless. This beautiful little juniper was growing hard against the side of a huge sandstone cliff. In a very few minutes the sun will be above the area, the furnace will have been turned on, and I will be looking for shade!
