Goodbye Fujifilm X100VI Hello Nikon Zf

Less than a year ago, I got my hands on the Fujifilm X100VI, and it changed how I approached photography. The only problem is that I had to give it back to my partner, leaving me empty-handed. To fill that void, I picked up a Nikon Zf, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Fujifilm essentially holds a monopoly in the digital camera space for "experience photography." What I mean by that can be summed up as cameras that are being released without professional "workhorse" specs or a spec sheet as the core of the camera. The recently announced Fujfilm X Half is a great example. One thing included in their systems is the ability to apply styles, or "recipes" as the community calls them, directly in the camera, thus eliminating much of the need to edit your images.

When I found out the Nikon Zf was being updated to enable flexible color profiles (similar to recipes), I was intrigued. Were Nikon's picture styles remotely competitive with Fujifilm’s? I had to try it for myself, and after a month-long road trip with the camera, I can confidently say that the Nikon Zf surprised me in many ways. This isn't a traditional review of the camera. In fact, I spend a lot of time talking about things like shutter sound, sensory response, and simply how the camera feels in function. If you're into that, then this video is for you.

Alex Armitage's picture

Alex Armitage has traveled the world to photograph and film some of the most beautiful places it has to offer. No matter the location, perfecting it's presentation to those absent in the moment is always the goal; hopefully to transmute the feeling of being there into a visual medium.

Totally agree. ZF is a game changer. I rarely pick up the M anymore, the ZF is much more enjoyable and rendering with manual focus lenses is just beautiful. It now has a dedicated site that just hosts zf images and photographers at www.nikon-zf.com

And as far as hosting and sharing your ZF shots, instagram is nice but has lost its focus.
