Fujifilm North America Corporation has introduced the new Fujinon XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR lens, designed for Fujifilm X Series cameras. Announced today, the lens is scheduled to be available in late 2025 and will retail for $499.
The XF 23mm f/2.8 lens, equivalent to a 35mm focal length in the 35mm format, prioritizes portability, weighing just 90 g (3.17 oz) and measuring only 23 mm (0.91 inches) in length. Despite its compact size, the lens is constructed to deliver excellent image quality and robust autofocus performance.
Victor Ha, Vice President, Electronic Imaging and Optical Devices Divisions at Fujifilm North America Corporation, called the XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR lens "versatile" and added: "The lens is adaptable to handle standard, wide angle, and close-up image making with ease, while at the same time offering an ultra-compact form factor and user-friendly functionality."
Optically, the lens employs a design of eight elements in six groups, including two aspherical elements, to minimize aberrations. Additionally, the XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR features a smooth 11-blade aperture diaphragm designed to deliver pleasing circular bokeh.
Autofocus is driven by a direct-current (DC) motor that enables quick and reliable focusing. The lens excels in close-up photography, allowing a minimum focusing distance of just 20 cm (7.9 inches). Build quality is robust, with metal components and weather sealing at nine points, enabling usability in environments down to -10 °C (14 °F).
